The current crisis in Venezuela has had severe impacts on South America and affected the world at large.  Since 2015, more than 4 million people have fled this nation of around 32 million. Many refugees have walked across the western border into Colombia, where more than 1.4 million Venezuelans now reside. From there hundreds of thousands have continued into Ecuador, Peru, Chile and other South American nations. Still hundreds of thousands more have made it to Europe, North America, and the Caribbean.

The crisis has spiraled through mismanagement and corruption. This year alone the country  could experience 10,000,000% inflation. Unemployment has reached 44.3% as the once oil rich, and independant country has seen its oil production fall to less than ⅓ of its peak production.

In addition, the UN has cited numerous human rights violations occurring in Venezuela. The government has been called out as complicit in taking political prisoners, torturing dissidents, and contributing to humanitarian crimes. Meanwhile, there are reports of largely lawless areas where gangs control the streets and victims have little ability to seek retribution. 

What can you do?

Art For Impact is actively helping with the Venezuelan crisis.  We purchase crafts and materials for our art pieces from both refugees and Venezuelans still in their country.  In addition, we have made multiple trips to the border delivering aid packages to Venezuelans on the roads walking to find a better life.  You can support our work by purchasing art or attending one of our shows.
